We provide a range of technical assistance, training and strategic planning services to a broad array of customers including individuals and families, government entities, providers of supports, and employers.
- Public Benefits Planning: Providing analysis of financial situation and long-term care needs. Providing options for strategically leveraging public benefits considering income, resources, living situation, goals and other information to assist individuals in navigating and choosing options which best support their goals and increase employment outcomes. Credentialing training required.
- Public Benefits Information and Education: Providing individuals with the knowledge and tools they need to make informed decisions about access to benefits considering employment income and goals. Recognize potential issues with benefits and help individuals access public benefits planning services as needed to support their needs. Credentialing training may or may not be required. Basic benefits training is recommended to ensure accuracy of information provided to individuals.

Information and Education
Provide information and education to legislators, government partners, individuals and families, employers, support professionals and other stakeholders.
- Advise on legislation

Increase Benefits planner capacity and elevate knowledge of State Agency Partners.
- Provide access to credentialing training and specialty training
- Training for attorneys (offered through Cornell)
- Credentialing Training and Audit only access to 40-hour training – Cornell or VCU
- Provide State specific training as a follow up to the credentialing training
- Develop information and tools around state specific topics
- Navigating State Benefits Resources
- Medicaid avenues and pathway – tools to understand state specific Medicaid programs (population served, eligibility, thresholds)
Building Systems to Provide Benefits Planning
Assist States with mapping benefits planning resources, state agency policy and program specialists and others to evaluate capacity and to build cohesive, responsive, available systems to meet the needs of individuals in accessing benefits planning and information and education to inform and support employment outcomes.
BenefitU is a service developed by Wise with support from Washington State’s Developmental Disabilities Administration (now DDCS). It’s designed to help people with disabilities better understand and manage their public benefits.
BenefitU offers:
- Virtual benefits planning for individuals aged 14 and older with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and enrolled in the DDA / DDCS system.
- Information and referral services for people seeking help with disability-related benefits
- A user-friendly website with tools and resources to support informed decision-making
The BenefitU website receives thousands of visitors each year, and our planning team provides personalized, virtual support to hundreds of Washington residents annually. No referral is needed, and intakes can be schedule through the BenefitU website.
Collaborative Community of Practice
Tailored for Benefits Planners and State Agency Partners
- Create cohesion between various benefits planning efforts and Program and Policy Managers at the State Level
- Develop a Statewide Benefits Planning Network to include:
- State Agency Policy and Program Managers
- WIPAs, State Agency Funded Benefits Planners and other credentialed planners
- Schedule regular recurring meetings and invite presenters from SSA, from State Agencies, and from other specialists to provide training
- Secure approval for trainings to meet Cornell certification continuing education standards
- Record trainings to develop a library of training to offer to new planners joining the network
