The Washington Initiative for Supported Employment (Wise) is a non-profit organization dedicated to expanding and sustaining employment opportunities for people with developmental disabilities. We consult with families, employment service agencies, local and state governments, school districts, and private businesses to provide training and support for those who wish to create employment opportunities in their communities.
Wise is currently seeking Work Study eligible students for the position of Supported Employment Specialist. In joining our team, you will work for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are developing or mastering their job skills as they are either leaving high school or working in a variety of employer settings. As an employment specialist you will play multiple roles, you will serve at a minimum, as a job coach, a mentor, and a leader.
Typical daily activities could include:
- Teaching how to master a new task at work,
- Teaching how to safely ride Metro from one location to another,
- Developing appropriate social interactions and boundaries,
- Developing good/healthy choices, among many other life and work skills.

This is an hourly position with starting pay at $15.45 per hour. We require work study eligibility and the ability to pass a background check. Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities is not required.
