This training session will provide a basic overview of essential functions of marketing and customized job development for employment support professionals who work with job candidates with disabilities. Along with learning the essential functions of job development, individuals will be introduced to various models and methods successful developers use in their communities.

Learning Objectives:

  • Gain an overview of the history of supported employment as it relates to current customized employment models
  • Learn to design a customized employment approach for job candidates
  • Learn to create business networks and job leads by following business trends and using social media in your community
  • Learn various ways to network, research, cold call and present effective presentations to employers
  • Demonstrate the ability to make business introductions, a formal business presentation along with negotiating difficult questions from employers
  • Ability to perform informational interviews, environmental/job analysis and marketing proposals to employers
  • Obtain strategies for job matching and job candidate portfolio development
  • The ability to identify internal practices for staff training needs and department goals to position the agency as an employment service.
  • Obtain an overview of ADA Title I Employment provisions including the job candidate’s right and time of disclosure disability.

  • Coffee and snacks will be provided each day.  Lunch will be on your own.
  • In order to receive a certificate of completion for this training, attendees can miss no more than one hourtotal during this two-day event.

Val Morgan, CEO, Conscious Moves. Val brings over 25 years of sales experience and training with local businesses. She teaches Job Development Sales Fundamentals training at The Highline Community College Employment Specialist Certificate Course, as well as providing training and consulting on job development to numerous employment agencies in Washington State. She provides valuable information to increase knowledge and skills in order to prepare job developers to effectively communicate with employers, and increase placement of their clients.

Claire Prichard, leads a team of employment specialists at United Cerebral Palsy’s Employment Solutions, in Portland, OR. She has been working with people with developmental disabilities since 2008, specializing in supported employment since 2013. Claire believes that supported employment is a path to truly inclusive communities. She is most passionate about collaborating with supported employment professionals to find their personal job development magic. 

 

Jenny Crook, Program Manager, WISE. Jenny has experience as a Competitive Integrated Employment Program Manager, an Employment Specialist, and a Job Coach in Oregon. She became a Certified Employment Support Professional through APSE in 2014 and received her BS in Sociology from Portland State University. She enjoys using her training as a Person Centered Planning Facilitator to brainstorm employment possibilities with people. Jenny’s interests and strengths are in collaborating with supported employment programs and teams to create and implement best practices. She is passionate about the tenets of Employment First and achieving equitable employment for all people experiencing intellectual and developmental disabilities. When not in the office she enjoys reading dystopian novels, thrift shopping for treasures, cats, and spending time with family.
